Ulsan Hyundai vs Pohang Steelers 15/08/20
15 August 2020
Ulsan Hyundai will be looking to extend an unbeaten home run in K League 1 to three (W2, D1) when they lock horns with Pohang Steelers at the Ulsan Munsu Football Stadium this week.
A dismal goalless home draw with Suwon last time out brought Ulsan’s five-game winning run in K League 1 to an end, but the hosts enter this round one point clear of second-placed Jeonbuk. The ‘Tigers’ have not only lost fewer games than any other side in South Korea’s top-flight (1), but they are the only team to smash a 30-goal barrier after 15 matches. Indeed, Kim Do-hoon’s men have netted the division’s highest average of 2.26 goals per league fixture, scoring a total of 34. Curiously, though, only 31.43% (11) of those goals arrived at home, with Ulsan bagging under 1.5 goals in five of seven K League 1 home clashes so far.
Meanwhile, the visitors are winless in three league outings (D2, L1), all of which saw both teams score in one half. Notably, Pohang had racked up four consecutive triumphs, all of which yielded a full-time margin of at least two goals, before succumbing to a 2-1 defeat to Jeonbuk. They now face another formidable challenge of a side they’ve lost to in five of their previous seven top-flight away H2Hs (W1, D1). Yet, free-scoring Pohang are confident of getting on the scoresheet after netting over 1.5 goals in five of seven league trips this season. In fact, only their hosts Ulsan (23) have scored more goals on the road than the ‘Steelers’ (19) thus far.
