Liverpool vs Wolverhampton Wanderers

Liverpool’s last game under long-serving manager Jurgen Klopp brings Wolverhampton Wanderers to Anfield in the Premier League season finale.

The time has come for Klopp to wave goodbye to the Kop after nine years in charge of Liverpool. Klopp’s last game at Anfield promises to be full of emotions. Tears of joy should replace the ones of sadness at the final whistle if the German can uphold his sterling record of never losing on the final day of a Premier League season (W6, D2). However, the Reds’ underwhelming run of just one win from their last four league outings (D2, L1) means they can’t take anything for granted as they bid to post a third consecutive top-flight win against Wolverhampton. Both previous victories came by a two-goal margin, and you’d expect that trend to continue, knowing 12 of Liverpool’s 14 league wins at Anfield this season have yielded multi-goal margins.

Visiting Wolverhampton have nothing but pride left to play for as a top-half finish looks unreachable. Their hopes of spoiling Klopp’s farewell party are thin after losing six of their last nine Premier League games (W1, D2), including two most recent two by 3+ goals ‘to one.’ Leaving the comforts of Molineux spells further trouble, with Gary O’Neil’s side going winless on their last five league travels (D2, L3) while ominously conceding 2+ goals on four occasions. Since their last three Premier League visits to Anfield ended in multi-goal defeats, another bleak afternoon is on the cards. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. Wolves have avoided defeat at this venue just five times across their last 30 league visits (W2, D3, L25).
