RB Leipzig vs Werder Bremen 15/02/20

15 February 2020

RB Leipzig will look to extend their unbeaten Bundesliga (BL) home run to eight games (W5, D2) when they take on out-of-sorts Werder Bremen at the Red Bull Arena this weekend.

Three consecutive league games without a win (D2, L1) have seen the hosts surrender the top spot to Bayern Munich. Lagging one point behind the Bavarians, ‘Die Roten Bullen’ will hope to regain the first place when they take on a side they’ve beaten in all three of their previous top-flight home H2Hs. Notably, they won the first half in all of those clashes, scoring over 1.5 match goals each time. In turn, Julian Nagelasmann’s players have netted two or more goals in their last six BL home outings, producing three or more in five. Leipzig’s home action usually sparks into life after the break, with 61% (17) of their 28 home goals scored coming in the second half. Their slow starts at the Red Bull Arena have seen Leipzig ship the opening goal in half (five) of their ten BL games held here but come back to win two of them (D2, L1).

In the meantime, the visitors travel to Leipzig on a run of three consecutive league defeats, all of which have witnessed them concede over 1.5 goals. In fact, relegation-threatened Werder have now lost seven of their last eight BL fixtures (W1), drawing a blank in five. But, despite the recent lack of goals, 68% (17) of their 25 BL goals scored came away from home. Additionally, ‘Die Werderaner’ have opened the scoring in eight of 11 BL road trips (73%), which makes them the second-quickest away starters in the league. If they manage to score the first goal here, it may not be the last, as Florian Kohfeldt’s men secured just three wins in eight BL away games in which they’ve drawn first blood (D2, L3).
