Peru vs Ecuador 06/09/19

6 September 2019

Peru and Ecuador go head-to-head at the Red Bull Arena for an international friendly fixture that will be their first match since the 2019 Copa America (CA). Peru came off better in three of the last five H2Hs between these two nations (W3, D1, L1), beating the South American rivals by a narrow one-goal margin each time.

The Peruvians were impressive at the CA, going all the way to the final where Brazil outscored them 3-1. Both of Peru’s losses in the competition came against Brazil, with La Blanquirroja securing two wins and playing out two draws in the remaining five CA outings. Overall, 2019 has been turbulent for Peru who won four of ten games since the turn of the year (W4, D2, L4). Less than half of those matches (4) have produced over 2.5 goals with just two of them seeing both teams score.

Meanwhile, the Ecuadorians failed to go past the CA group stage, losing two of three games in the first round of the competition (D1, L2). Ecuador’s underwhelming performances at the CA further confirmed their struggling for form in 2019. Los Amarillos are winless in all seven outings since the turn of the year (D3, L4), with a lack of goals emerging as their main issue. The Tricolor netted one goal or less in six of those matches, with one of a total of five goals they’ve scored in that span coming inside the opening 30 minutes of the game.
