Manchester United vs Leicester City 14/09/19

14 September 2019

Manchester United and Leicester City go head-to-head at Old Trafford with the visitors looking to put an end to United’s nine-game Premier League (PL) unbeaten streak in H2Hs (W6, D3).

Although the hosts thrashed Chelsea 4-0 at home in the PL curtain-raiser, they are winless in the league ever since (D2, L1). Interestingly, both of those stalemates have arrived away from home and have seen United pick up a one-goal lead in the first half before dropping it in the opening 15 minutes of the second period. Also, the Red Devils have been struggling at home lately, securing just one win in their last five PL home outings (W1, D1, L3). But, their home record against Leicester is in sharp contrast, as United outplayed the Foxes in eight of their previous nine PL H2Hs at this venue (W8, D1).

On the other hand, unbeaten in the opening four PL games (W2, D2), the visitors are hopeful they can post third consecutive league triumph after beating Bournemouth 3-1 at home last time out. Both of Leicester’s away PL matches have seen both teams scored and featured goals in both halves, with two of three goals they’ve netted in that period arriving beyond the hour mark. If the Foxes do win here, it could as well see them prevail by a single goal as three of their four away league wins since the turn of the year saw them win by a narrow one-goal margin. Notably though, nine of Leicester’s 11 PL trips in 2019 have witnessed goals on both ends, with Brendan Rodgers’ side scoring 2+ match goals on five occasions in the process.
