Atalanta vs Fiorentina 26/04/19

26 April 2019

After playing out a 3-3 draw in Florence last month, Atalanta and Fiorentina go head-to-head at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia for the return leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final tie.

It will be the third competitive H2H meeting between these two sides in 2019, with both of their previous clashes featuring 4+ match goals.

The hosts go into this encounter off the back of a 2-1 SA road win over Napoli that has seen them performing a stunning second-half comeback. Apart from two straight goalless draws in April, La Dea’s games have not been short of entertainment as all five of their remaining competitive outings in the past two months have featured goals on both ends, with five of them producing over 2.5 match goals. What’s more, ‘I Nerazzurri’ have bagged at least one goal in eight of their last nine competitive home games, netting 2+ match goals six times in that sequence. A potential worry for Gian Piero Gasperini could, however, be the fact his players have failed to keep a clean sheet in seven of their last ten home meetings across all competitions, allowing over 1.5 match goals three times though.

On the other hand, winless in their last ten competitive games (D6, L4), the visitors go in search of their elusive first victory since mid-February. Lifting the Coppa Italia trophy is the only chance for the Viola to reach the Europa League promotion considering they currently sit 11th in Serie A. Unprolific in the final third, the Lilies have scored one goal or less in seven of their previous eight clashes across all competitions, finding the net in the first half in five of those games. Vincenzo Montella can’t be happy with his team’s defending either, as Fiorentina failed to preserve a clean slate in 10 of 11 of their previous matches across all competitions, allowing over 1.5 match goals six times in the process.
