Young Boys vs Eintracht Frankfurt 11/07/19

11 July 2019

Young Boys and Eintracht Frankfurt start their Uhren Cup campaign at the Tissot Arena as the German giants seek a way out of a severe crisis.

Soon after securing back-to-back Swiss Super League titles, Young Boys have started preparations for the new season, having already played out five friendlies this summer (W3, D1, L1). While all three of their wins in those warm-up matches produced over 2.5 goals, both of their failures have featured under 2.5 goals, with Young Boys keeping just one clean sheet in those five games. Well aware of his team’s defensive frailties (two clean sheets in last nine outings), Gerardo Seoane heavily relies on his devastating attack that has netted 2+ match goals in six of those games.

Meanwhile, the Eagles have defeated by Wolfsburg on penalties in their first summer friendly after the match ended in a 3-3 stalemate. However, Adi Hütter’s men received a morale-boost after sweeping the lower-league outfit Bad Homburg aside with a commanding 14-0 victory earlier this month. A disastrous end of the last season will see Die Adler miss out on the Champions League after they’ve failed to pick up a win in the final six games of the Bundesliga campaign (D2, L4). Another frustrating fact for Eintracht is that they’ve scored one goal or less across all six of those outings while allowing over 1.5 match goals in those four losses.
