Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Tottenham Hotspur 15/12/19

15 December 2019

Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur go head-to-head at Molineux Stadium, as the visitors look to leapfrog Wolves and break into the Premier League (PL) top-six for the first time since Matchday 2.

Undefeated in their last six PL outings (W3, D3), the hosts go into this meeting on the back of a 4-0 demolition of Besiktas in the Europa League. Wolves’ drastic upturn in form has been sparked by their attacking improvement, as they’ve netted over 1.5 match goals in six of their last seven competitive games. Also, the Wanderers have won three of their previous five PL home fixtures, scoring precisely two goals per match in each of those successes (W3, D2). Except for a humiliating 5-2 defeat to Chelsea back in September, Wolverhampton have avoided defeat in all seven of their remaining PL home games this term (W3, D4), restricting their opponents to a maximum of one goal per match on all of those occasions. All that will encourage Nuno Espirito Santo’s men to try to put an end to their three-game winless home run in top-flight H2Hs against Tottenham (D2, L1).

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho’s appointment has so far turned the Spurs’ season around, as they’ve picked up three wins in four PL matches with him in charge (W3, L1). Notably, all of those games have featured three or more goals and witnessed both teams score, with Tottenham bagging 3+ match goals three times. Mourinho’s main problem ahead of this trip is his team’s defensive fragility that has been exposed on numerous occasions this season. Indeed, the Portuguese manager has seen his side concede two or more goals in five of six competitive games in charge. What’s more, the North Londoners have not only failed to keep a blank sheet in all eight PL road trips this season, but they’ve allowed over 1.5 match goals in seven of those travels.
