Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Burnley

Molineux forms the backdrop for a bottom-half Premier League showdown between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Burnley.

Back to Molineux following a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal at the weekend, Wolves are looking to reignite their Premier League form having lost three of their last five games (W1, D1). Manager Gary O’Neil can draw confidence from the fact all three losses came on the road, with his side stitching together a four-match unbeaten home league run (W2, D2), bookended by a stunning 2-1 comeback win against Tottenham last time out. However, after winning their first two Premier League H2Hs at home in the 21st century ‘to nil,’ the ‘Wanderers’ have gone winless in their last three on the trot (D2, L1), failing to get on the scoresheet in the most recent two. Home and away, they’ve not defeated Burnley in seven consecutive top-flight H2Hs (D3, L4).

Except for a promising-looking H2H record, there’s not much visiting Burnley can hope for amidst a disastrous return to the Premier League. But Vincent Kompany’s men pulled off an emphatic 5-0 home triumph against fellow promoted rivals Sheffield United at the weekend to snap an underwhelming six-game losing league streak and move within two points of safety. Perhaps more importantly, that result marked their first top-flight clean sheet in 2023/24, though they remain the division’s second-worst defense with 32 goals conceded. Encouragingly for traveling fans, only 37.5% of those goals came on the road (12/32), which doesn’t change the fact they’ve lost on four of their six Premier League travels this term (W1, D1).
