Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Burnley

Wolverhampton Wanderers will be aiming to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they meet relegation-threatened Burnley at Molineux Stadium.

Despite being held to an uneventful 0-0 draw to Norwich City at the weekend, Wolverhampton have equaled their best-ever 13-game start to a Premier League season in terms of points (20). As a result, Wolves have developed into realistic top-four challengers, with fourth-placed West Ham currently just three points above them in the standings. Worryingly, though, after winning seven top-flight H2Hs in a row between 1974 and 2018, Wolves have gone winless in their last five Premier League encounters against Burnley (D2, L3). Midweek could be their best chance to end that streak, as they’ve won four of their five midweek Premier League games at home (L1) since returning to the top-flight in 2018. Moreover, Wolves have won their last three Premier League home matches and could make it four successive top-flight home victories in a row for the first time since 1975.

On the other hand, Burnley have gone unbeaten in their last four Premier League matches (W1, D3) since a 2-0 away loss to Manchester City in mid-October. However, that hasn’t been enough to lift them outside the relegation zone, though a four-point deficit on 17th-placed Watford looks bridgeable. Adding to their confidence, the ‘Clarets’ have racked up four wins in their last five Premier League away games played on Wednesdays (D1). That said, Sean Dyche’s men enter this round without a single Premier League win this season, with no side picking up fewer points on the road than them so far (3 – D3, L3). They’ve won just four of their last 27 Premier League fixtures (D10, L13), 2020/21 included, but one of those triumphs came at the expense of Wolves back in April.
