Wolfsburg vs RB Leipzig

Wolfsburg and RB Leipzig are set to meet in a handsomely-looking Bundesliga encounter at the Volkswagen Arena.

Wolfsburg’s dreadful spell of form culminated with a disastrous 4-0 defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach on the stroke of the international break, bookending a five-game winless streak in Bundesliga action (D1, L4). What’s worse, Niko Kovac’s side had a lead in three of those five matches, underlining a growing frustration streaming through their veins ahead of this clash. The impending return to the Volkswagen Arena bodes well for Wolfsburg’s bid to recover from a rough patch, considering only pacesetters Bayer Leverkusen have taken points from this stadium in 2023/24 (W4, D1). One of those four victories was a narrow 1-0 triumph against Leipzig in the DFB Pokal round two, marking only their second win across their last six competitive H2Hs on home soil (W2, D2, L2).

Meanwhile, visiting Leipzig went from back-to-back competitive losses to two consecutive wins ‘to one’ before the international break hindered their momentum. A 3-1 home victory over Freiburg last time out at least fired them past Borussia Dortmund into fourth, although leaders Leverkusen are already eight points off. Manager Marco Rose must have already identified the problem. Both of Leipzig’s Bundesliga losses this season have come on the road, although they’ve won their three remaining away games via a combined score of 7-1. But the Volkswagen Arena hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for ‘Die Roten Bullen’ in the Bundesliga, as they’ve only won once on their last six such visits to this stadium (D3, L2).
