Wolfsburg vs Freiburg 13/06/20

13 June 2020

The unpredictable Wolfsburg side welcome out-of-sorts Freiburg to the Volkswagen Arena, hoping to bring a three-game winless run in their Bundesliga (BL) H2Hs to an end (D1, L2).

The hosts have been struggling for form and consistency since Germany’s top-tier football came back to action last month, winning three and losing the other two of their five league matches in May. Each of those five results (win/loss) in the post-pandemic period has seen the winner on the day break the deadlock, with three of those matches witnessing over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. Also, ‘Die Wölfe’ have lost all three of their previous competitive home fixtures, conceding precisely one goal in both halves on each of those occasions. A draw seems to be an unlikely outcome here, too, given that none of their last five competitive home H2Hs has ended in a stalemate (W3, L2).

On the other hand, the visitors have managed to bring a four-game winless league run to a halt (D2, L2), securing a narrow 1-0 home triumph over Borussia Monchengladbach last time out. Not particularly an attractive team to watch, the majority (69.23%) of Freiburg’s top-flight matches since the calendar flipped have featured under 2.5 goals (9/13). In turn, nine of their 13 league matches in 2020 have ended separating the sides by under 1.5 goals, with half (five) of their ten BL results since the turn of the year producing the identical 1-0 scoreline.
