Wolfsburg vs Eintracht Frankfurt 23/04/19

23 April 2019

Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt go head-to-head at the Volkswagen Arena for a clash the visitors have to win to boost their chances of securing the Champions League promotion.

Sitting five-points adrift of sixth-placed TSG Hoffenheim, the hosts go into this round of fixtures off the back of a 2-0 road loss to RB Leipzig, which was their third defeat in their last five Bundesliga outings (W2, L3). In spite of the Wolves’ indifferent home record (W6, D4, L4), their form in the previous four BL home matches (W3, D1) indicates they have legitimate right to hope for a positive outcome here. What’s more, Wolfsburg have outplayed Frankfurt in three of their previous five H2Hs at this venue (W3, D1, L1) with four of those clashes featuring over 2.5 goals. Judging on Wolfsburg’s recent home games, this showdown promises goals as four of the Wolves’ five BL home meetings in 2019 produced three or more goals.

Meanwhile, although the visitors suffered a shock 3-1 home loss to Augsburg last time out, they go into this encounter off the back of a 2-0 Europa League home win over Benfica that has sent them to the EL semi-final. Residing fourth in the table with a narrow one-point lead over fifth-placed Borussia Monchengladbach, the Eagles have to make the most out of this game if they look to qualify for the Champions League. The aforementioned failure has brought Frankfurt’s impressive 11-game Bundesliga unbeaten run to an end (W7, D4), and it was also the first time since the turn of the year that Adi Hütter’s men have conceded over 2.5 goals per match. However, Eintracht have won all three of their previous BL away games, netting 2+ match goals in each while preserving a clean slate twice in the process.
