Wolfsberger vs AC Milan
Reigning Serie A champions AC Milan head to the Wörthersee Stadion to take on Austrian team Wolfsberger in their third pre-season match-up this summer.
Wolfsberger’s new Austrian Bundesliga season started with a whimper rather than a bang as they spurned an early lead in a 1-1 home draw with Sturm Graz on the opening weekend. Yet, they can take some confidence from a thumping 4-1 triumph over lower-league outfit Kuchl in the inaugural OFB Cup round that bookended a three-game winning streak, including friendlies. High scoring has been a common theme in Wolfsberger’s recent outings, as six of their last nine have seen over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. Yet, a lack of defensive stubbornness could cost the Austrians dearly here, as they have failed to keep a clean sheet in 17 of their last 18 matches.
On the other hand, AC Milan come into this fixture off the back of an abysmal 3-1 pre-season defeat to Hungarian minnows Zalaegerszegi TE. By contrast, their 2-1 victory away to German side Cologne in their opening off-season friendly had formed part of a formidable six-match winning streak. That run had featured five successive Serie A victories down the final stretch of last season that helped ‘I Rossoneri’ end a decade-long wait for the Scudetto. Stefano Pioli’s men have been firing on all cylinders of late, bagging 2+ goals in their last five away matches, at an average of 2.5 goals per game.
