West Ham United vs Wolverhampton Wanderers 21/06/20

21 June 2020

West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers will return to their Premier League (PL) commitments this weekend, as the two sides go head-to-head at the Olympic Stadium.

The hosts had reeled off a series of underwhelming performances, picking up only one victory from nine league matches (D2, L6) before the coronavirus pandemic curtailed their misery. Sitting level on points with 18th-placed Bournemouth, the Hammers desperately need to snap a three-game losing streak in their PL H2Hs with Wolves. Although they’ve suffered six defeats in their last 11 PL home games (W2, D3), David Moyes’ side have a chance to post back-to-back home wins for the second time this term. But, West Ham’s hopes of securing three points here would suffer a setback if they fail to score the opening goal, considering that they lost all five of their PL home matches in which they’ve shipped the opener.

Meanwhile, five consecutive league matches without a win (W2, D3), four of which have seen Wolves keep a clean sheet, means the visitors remain in contention for the top-five finish. The Wanderers had overseen a slight upturn in results, going from two consecutive PL away defeats to three straight league trips without a loss (W2, D1) before the pandemic halted their momentum. Notably, each of their four results (win/loss) during that five-game sequence yielded a single-goal margin, with three seeing over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. In turn, 13 of Wolves’ 14 PL away games this season have ended separating the sides by under 1.5 goals (W5, D6, L3).
