West Ham United vs Wolverhampton Wanderers

Back to Premier League action after a 1-0 defeat at Everton, West Ham United play host to fellow bottom-half underachievers Wolverhampton Wanderers.

While a 100% two-game start to their Europa Conference League group stage campaign sounds inspiring, West Ham United’s form in the Premier League has been anything but promising. Except for a 1-0 victory at Aston Villa in late August, the ‘Hammers’ have won none of their six remaining league fixtures this season (D1, L5), entering September’s international break two points adrift of safety. Manager David Moyes has come under heavy scrutiny. After picking up just one point from their opening three Premier League outings at the London Stadium, West Ham could think about sacking the Englishman. On top of that, Moyes’ men have tallied a mere three Premier League goals this season, which is the joint-worst across the breadth of the English Football League.

On the other hand, Wolverhampton Wanderers found themselves on the wrong end of a 3-0 scoreline against Manchester City last time out, as they head into proceedings only one point clear of their hosts. Indeed, Wolves’ disastrous start to the season has seen them win just one of their opening seven league matches (D3, L3), scoring as many goals as West Ham (3) in the process. Stretching back to the tail-end of last season, the ‘Wanderers’ are winless in seven consecutive Premier League games away from home (D2, L5). Another failed attempt to grab all three points would see them go eight successive top-flight travels without winning for the first time since August 2018.
