West Ham United vs Liverpool
West Ham United and Liverpool are set to square off in a Premier League top-four six-pointer at the London Stadium.
Though a 2-2 Europa League draw with Genk in midweek could be considered a setback, West Ham have been nothing short of exceptional in the Premier League of late. The ‘Hammers’ have won their last three league matches in a row, with two of those victories coming by the identical 1-0 scoreline. Those narrow wins should brace them well for this encounter, considering three of their last five Premier League meetings with Liverpool have yielded a full-time margin of under 1.5 goals (D1, L4). But, facing this opposition has been a nightmare for West Ham over the past five years, as they’ve failed to win any of their last ten Premier League H2Hs (D2, L8) since doing a league double over them in 2015/16.
On the other hand, Liverpool claimed a comfortable 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid in midweek Champions League action to forget about turning a 2-0 lead into a 2-2 draw against Brighton last time out. Though they’ve occasionally stuttered at home this season, the ‘Reds’ have been utterly impressive on the road, picking up four wins from five Premier League travels to date (D1). What’s more, Jurgen Klopp’s men have scored a staggering 19 goals across those five trips, the third-best tally at this stage of the competition in history. Equally impressive in both halves of play, they’ve bagged a league-high nine first-half goals on the road while they are the only side to have already hit double digits in the second half (10). The Merseyside heavyweights are unbeaten in their last 20 Premier League matches (W14, D6), scoring an intimidating average of 2.5 goals in that run.
