Werder Bremen vs Borussia Dortmund
Weserstadion is the venue as Werder Bremen and Borussia Dortmund met in an exciting Bundesliga fixture.
Despite going from four wins in five Bundesliga matches (L1) to back-to-back winless outings (D1, L1), Werder Bremen could still secure their first top-half finish in the top flight since 2018/19. A 2-1 defeat at TSG Hoffenheim last time out left Ole Werner’s side vulnerable to losing two consecutive league games for the first time since early December. Dortmund could be the last team they’d want to face at this juncture, considering they’ve lost the two most recent Bundesliga H2Hs between the sides without scoring. But losing just once in their last five home league outings (W2, D2) should keep Werder’s morale high despite staring down the barrel of a fifth consecutive Bundesliga fixture at the Weserstadion without a clean sheet.
Visiting Borussia Dortmund will be keen to take advantage of Werder’s defensive frailties to defy an underwhelming three-game Bundesliga form (W1, D1, L1). Unbeaten in this fixture since 2014 (W5, D2), Die Borussen will be out to post a second successive away league win for just the third time this season after a 2-0 triumph at Union Berlin on their last road trip. Anything less than three points could see Dortmund finish this round outside the top four, as they carry a narrow one-point lead on fifth-placed RB Leipzig into this contest. Manager Edin Terzic can draw inspiration from Dortmund’s seven-game unbeaten league streak away from home (W3, D4). Perhaps surprisingly, the visitors have netted fewer goals than any other team in the Bundesliga top four (48), which could prove problematic.
