Werder Bremen vs Bayern Munich

The two Bundesliga sides yet to lose this season face off against each other at the Weserstadion as Werder Bremen take on Bayern Munich.

Falling down to ten men midway through the second half of their encounter against Mainz last weekend didn’t prevent Werder Bremen from getting into the win column for the first time this season. A hard-earned 2-1 victory at the Mewa Arena maintained Werder’s unbeaten Bundesliga start (W1, D2), which includes a spirited 0-0 draw against Borussia Dortmund in their only home league match this term. Back to the home comforts of their Weserstadion, Ole Werner’s charges pursue a fifth consecutive unbeaten home game in the top flight for the first time since 2019 against none other than a Bayern side they’ve lost to in their last 14 league H2Hs on this ground. Perhaps they could flip the script this weekend after generating an admirable 57% undefeated ratio in league outings as outsiders since the beginning of last season (W7, D9, L12).

On the other hand, in addition to their flawless Bundesliga start under new manager Vincent Kompany (W3), Bayern Munich entered the Champions League folklore during the week with a mind-blowing 9-2 rout of Dinamo Zagreb, becoming the first team in the competition’s storied history to score 9+ goals in a single game. Of the 11 league goals they’ve hauled in the opening three rounds, nine came away from home, suggesting this could be a long day for Werder’s backline. It’s hard to expect anything less from a team that has averaged three goals per game across their last three top-flight visits to the Weserstadion. However, the Bavarians haven’t kept a clean sheet in away league action since November 2023, ominously conceding 2+ goals in ten of their last 13 league travels (W6, D1, L6).
