Werder Bremen vs Bayern Munich 01/12/18

01 December 2018

A dazzling performance and a 5-1 win over Benfica in the Champions League in midweek sees Bayern Munich fully motivated heading to the Weserstadion to face a struggling Werder Bremen side.

The River Islanders have suffered three losses in their last four Bundesliga games, as they currently sit 7th in the table with a 2-point deficit to the Europa League promotion zone. Lack of focus and the numerous ups and downs have so far highlighted Werder Bremen’s season. The Green-Whites reside one of the most unpredictable German teams this campaign, especially when it comes to their home displays. After being held to two straight home draws at the start of the season, Florian Kohfeldt’s players have secured two consecutive wins over Hertha and Wolfsburg. However, they have lost their last two matches in front of the local supporters, conceding nine goals while scoring three in the run. Werder have kept a clean sheet just two times since the start of the season, as they have already conceded 20 goals in their opening 12 Bundesliga matches.

Meanwhile, the visitors are going through a turbulent period, as they have failed to clinch a victory three times in their last five competitive games. Before a shock 3-3 draw with Fortuna Dusseldorf at home, the Bavarians have lost 3-2 to arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund, as they now sit fifth in the table, with a 9-point deficit to BVB. Just like their next rivals, the Reds have struggled to keep a clean sheet ten times in the opening 12 Bundesliga fixtures, while they have missed out on scoring a goal two times in the run. Bayern are the only team in the German top tier that is yet to play out a draw away from home, as they have secured four wins and suffered two losses in six road matches. Their defensive frailties have seen them concede them a minimum of one goal on the road on five occasions although they have managed to score a minimum of two goals four times in the run.
