Werder Bremen vs Bayern Munich 25/04/19
25 April 2019
Midweek’s DFB Pokal semi-final encounter between Werder Bremen and Bayern Munich sees the hosts trying to halt a disastrous 12-game losing streak against the Bavarians at the Weserstadion.
These two sides faced-off against each other in weekend’s Bundesliga showdown with Bayern securing a narrow 1-0 triumph, which was Werder’s first competitive defeat in 2019. Die Werderaner’s impressive form since the turn of the year has seen them sealed seven wins in 15 outings across all competitions (W7, D7, L1) with six of those successes saw Florian Kohfeldt’s players netting 2+ match goals. Moreover, Werder have secured four wins in six home games in 2019 (W4, D2), with three of those triumphs saw them score 3+ match goals. The biggest issue Kohfeldt has to deal with ahead of this match is Werder’s inability to keep a clean sheet, as Die Grün-Weißen struggled to preserve a clean slate in nine of their previous ten competitive games, allowing over 1.5 match goals only once though.
Meanwhile, after the Champions League elimination to Liverpool, the Bavarians are left with two domestic trophies to battle for as they come into this meeting after racking up a four-game competitive winning run. Notably, three of those triumphs have seen the visitors score 4+ match goals while keeping a clean sheet twice in the process. Furthermore, the defending Bundesliga champions are unbeaten in all six of their previous competitive away fixtures (W3, D3), with four of those games featuring over 3.5 match goals. A potential worry for Niko Kovac could, however, be the fact his players have failed to preserve a clean slate on six of their last seven competitive road trips, conceding 2+ match goals three times along the way.
