Watford vs Wolverhampton Wanderers 27/04/19

27 April 2019

Saturday’s Premier League round of fixtures sees two sides battling it out for seventh-place as Watford host Wolverhampton Wanderers to Vicarage Road.

Both teams have experienced the exact same success over the past five PL matchdays (W2, D1, L2) although the visitors come into this game off the back of a stunning 3-1 home win over Arsenal, while the hosts failed to beat Southampton at home last time out.

With three PL fixtures left to go, the Hornets sit one point adrift of their forthcoming rivals and victory is imperative for Javi Gracia’s men if they look to qualify for the Europa League. But, Watford’s recent drop-off in form has seen them gone from three straight PL home wins to two consecutive games without a triumph (D1, L1) with the Golden Boys scoring barely one across those two games. Watford have also failed to entertain their home fans over the past seven PL home outings, with five of those clashes featuring under 2.5 match goals. A disturbing fact for Gracia is certainly the Hornets’ defensive frailties that have seen them struggled to preserve a clean slate in 11 of 13 of their previous home games across all competitions.

Meanwhile, much more comfortable at home, the visitors have failed to wrap up all three points in all five of their previous PL away fixtures (D2, L3), with four of those games producing under 2.5 goals. Additionally, Wolves have collected just 20 of a total of their 51 PL points on the road (39.22%) with four of their five PL away wins have come against teams that sit below them in the table. Also, goals have been in short supply for the Wanderers when playing away from home, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s men netting 17 on as many PL road trips this term. Unimpressive in the final third, Wolverhampton have scored one goal or less in all five of their previous league away clashes.
