Villarreal vs Sevilla 23/06/20
23 June 2020
Villarreal will try to extend their unbeaten La Liga (LL) run against Sevilla to five games (W2, D2) when the two sides lock horns at the Estadio de la Ceramica this week.
The hosts have turned their fortunes around since the league’s restart, going from three consecutive LL defeats to three successive victories, all of which have yielded the identical 1-0 scoreline. In turn, ten of Villarreal’s 12 league matches since the turn of the year have ended separating the sides by under 1.5 goals (W7, D1, L4). Additionally, none of their last six LL home fixtures produced a draw (W4, L2), with five of those results (win/loss) yielding a single-goal margin. Villarreal’s home action usually bursts into life after the break. Indeed, 70.37% (19) of their 27 LL home goals scored so far came in the second half of play.
On the other hand, the visitors have avoided defeat in each of their three LL games (W1, D2) since Spanish football returned to action to bring their unbeaten run in the league to seven (W3, D4). However, the Andalusian giants have struggled to impress away from home lately, picking up only a single win from their last five LL road trips (D2, L2). Still, Sevilla’s recent LL away games have seen a lot of action. Four of their five previous league matches on the road have featured over 2.5 goals, with 60% of the goals (scored/conceded) across those fixtures coming after the halftime break (9/15).
