Malaysia will try to snap a two-game away losing streak against Vietnam when the two nations meet face-to-face at the Mỹ Đình National Stadium for their 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying (WCQ) fixture.

A goalless away draw with Thailand in the WCQ curtain-raiser now means that none of the hosts’ last seven matches have featured over 2.5 total goals (W2, D3, L2). Although they’ve lost two of their last three home matches (W1), the Golden Dragons have been impressive when on home soil over the past three and a half years (W10, D7). Interestingly, seven of their eight previous home results (win/loss) have seen the winning side come out on top without conceding a goal. It was also the case in three of their last four H2H meetings with Malaysia (W3, D1), with each of those triumphs seeing Vietnam beat the neighbors to nil.

Meanwhile, the visitors have started their WCQ campaign off on the right foot, securing a 3-2 away win over Indonesia, but they’ve struggled to maintain momentum, going down 2-1 to UAE at home last time out. It’s been “all or nothing” for Malaysia over the past ten months (W6, L4), with the majority of those results (6) being settled by a single-goal margin. But, the Malayan Tigers have picked up three straight away victories ahead of this trip, netting 2+ match goals and conceding at least one in each. Still, keeping a clean sheet when on the road has proved to be a daunting task for Malaysia who have struggled to prevent their rivals from scoring in 13 of their last 14 trips stretching back to August 2017.
