Valencia vs Real Madrid 16/12/19

16 December 2019

After registering Champions League successes respectively, Valencia and Real Madrid return to La Liga (LL) this weekend, as the two sides go head-to-head at the Estadio de Mestalla.

Unbeaten in their last four competitive matches (W3, D1), the hosts will be looking to replicate last season’s success when they outscored Real here. A tough nut to crack when at home, the Oranges have not lost a single LL home game this term (W4, L4), conceding an average of one goal per LL home fixture. Albert Celades’ men have also been impressive on the other end of the pitch, finding the net in all eight league home games. What’s more, they’ve scored two or more goals in all four of their last home matches in all competitions, opening the scoring in all but one of those matches. Los Ches have established themselves as the ‘second-half masters,’ netting six of their last seven LL home goals scored after the break.

Meanwhile, Los Blancos have been gathering momentum ever since a shock 1-0 away defeat to Mallorca back in October. They have racked up a ten-game unbeaten streak in all competitions (W8, D2), scoring over 1.5 match goals eight times during that run. Additionally, Zinedine Zidane’s men have kept a clean sheet in six matches during that ten-game sequence, allowing over 1.5 match goals only once. A potential worry for the visitors could be that they’ve drawn a blank twice in their last four LL road fixtures. Also, the Madrid giants have won only once in five of their previous top-flight trips to Valencia (W1, D2, L2), with all of those matches producing over 2.5 goals and seeing both teams score.
