Valencia vs Levante 13/06/20

13 June 2020

Familiar foes will lock horns at the Estadio de Mestalla this week, as Valencia take on one of the weakest La Liga (LL) away sides, Levante.

The coronavirus pandemic may have saved Valencia from losing a chance to qualify for the Champions League, as they had managed barely one triumph in five league fixtures before the season was halted (D2, L2). Yet, Los Ches remain one of three Spanish sides yet to taste defeat at home this term (W8, D6), with the majority (64.29%) of their LL home matches so far featuring under 2.5 goals (nine). Even when they win, Albert Celades’ men tend to make it look stressful, as five of their eight LL home victories came via a single-goal margin. That’s, however, a sharp contrast to Valencia’s recent dominance at home against Levante. Indeed, they’ve not only won each of their last five LL home H2Hs, but each of those successes has also yielded a multiple-goal margin.

On the other hand, the visitors had picked up only one triumph in four league matches before the pandemic halted proceedings (D1, L2), scoring under 1.5 goals on three of those occasions. Away from home, the ‘Granotas’ have sustained five successive league defeats, conceding over 1.5 goals in each of those failures. Interestingly, none of Levante’s LL away fixtures this term has ended in a stalemate (W3, L11), with ten of those 14 outcomes (win/loss) producing a narrow one-goal margin (71.43%). There’s been no coming back for Levante when they’ve shipped the opening goal on the road this season – Paco Lopez’s side lost all nine of their LL away clashes in which they’ve conceded the opener.
