USA vs Brazil 08/09/18

08 September 2018

The United States team, who missed out on the 2018 FIFA World Cup following a dreadful qualifying campaign, will face off against Brazil in an international friendly match that will take place at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

After finishing fifth in the CONCACAF qualifying group, behind the likes of Honduras, Panama, Costa Rica, and Mexico, the Yanks have featured in four friendlies against European teams, playing out three draws, with Portugal, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and France, while suffering a 2-1 defeat to the Republic of Ireland in the process. Dave Sarachan’s team also played against two CONMEBOL selections, securing two victories over Paraguay and Bolivia. However, the United States have a disastrous record against Brazil, as they have lost the previous ten meetings with the South America heavyweights.

Meanwhile, the Selecao head coach Tite intends to bring his team back on the right track after suffering the World Cup quarter-finals elimination by Belgium that infuriated the Brazilian nation, who had high aspirations ahead of the tournament. Although they’ve scored six and conceded just one goal before the encounter with De Rode Duivels, the five-team world champions have failed to leave up to expectations, often struggling in the final third. When it comes to Brazil, people always expect to see attractive and efficient football, something the wizards of Copacabana failed to produce over the last couple of years.

John Brooks of Wolfsburg, Colorado Rapids midfielder Kellyn Acosta and LA Galaxy midfielder Sebastian Lletget are all projected to take the field with the national team for the first time in 2018, while Manchester United’s most expensive summer signing Fred expected to start from the first minute, holding down the midfield alongside the likes of Coutinho and Casemiro. Barcelona’s summer acquisition Arthur and the Red Devils’ prodigy Andreas Pereira are also included in the roster by Tite.
