Uruguay vs Russia 25/06/18

25 June 2018

After two outstanding displays against Saudi Arabia and Egypt, the host nation, Russia, will be taking on Uruguay at the Cosmos Arena in Samara, in a match that will decide the winner of Group A. The Sbornaya demolished the Green Falcons in the opening World Cup match by five goals to nil, with the substitute, Denis Cheryshev, found the back of the net two times after coming on off the bench in the 24th minute. Although Mohamed Salah rejoined Egypt’s starting line-up after remaining on the bench against Uruguay, Russia proved to be a much better opponent, eventually winning the game by three goals to one, with Cheryshev adding one more goal to his account. On the other hand, the two-time World Cup winners, Uruguay, failed to demonstrate their full potential, winning both of the first two matches by a narrow 1-goal margin, barely creating any clear-cut opportunities, especially against Saudi Arabia.

The South American giants are obliged to look for a victory against the hosts if looking to avoid Spain in the round of 16, which is why Oscar Tabarez shall field his best starting eleven, with Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez expected to spearhead La Celeste’s attack. As for Russia, Stanislav Cherchesov would hardly give up on the starting line-up that showed the most of all teams participating in the final tournament.
