Uruguay vs Peru 30/06/19
30 June 2019
Uruguay and Peru will face-off at the Arena Fonte Nova for their Copa America quarter-final clash, which will see the Uruguayans trying to stretch their unbeaten run against the Peruvians at Copa America to three games (W1, D1).
Oscar Tabarez has overseen Uruguay’s strong start to the competition, as his team finished top of Group C with a record of two wins and a draw. What’s more, only Brazil scored more goals than La Celeste (7) so far, with Uruguay bagging 2+ match goals in two of three outings in the group stage. Still undefeated in 2019, they have racked up a six-game unbeaten run since the turn of the year (W5, D1), beating their rivals to nil on all five occasions while scoring 3+ match goals four times in the process. Also, Uruguay were on a three-game winning streak against Peru prior to a 2-1 loss in their last H2H encounter back in 2017.
Meanwhile, Los Incas have advanced to the quarter-finals as the best third-placed side, having finished third in Group A with an indifferent record of a win, a draw, and a loss. A goalless draw with Venezuela aside, La Blanquirroja’s remaining two outings in the group stage have been full of entertainment, with both of them featuring over 3.5 goals. But, Ricardo Gareca has yet to solve his team’s defensive issues, with Peru conceding over 1.5 goals per match in five of their last nine games over the past nine months. It will be a daunting test for Peru to stop free-scoring Uruguay from scoring, as they’ve struggled to keep a blank slate in all six of their previous H2H meetings.
