Uruguay vs France 06/07/18
6 July 2018
After an astonishing performance against Argentina in the round of 16, France will take on Uruguay in the quarter-final, in a match that will take place at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium. Les Bleus have demonstrated their quality against La Albiceleste following some unconvincing displays in the group stage, defeating the South American giants by four goals to three in what was the most entertaining game of the tournament so far. The 1998 World Cup winners have been recognized as one of the principal candidates to lift the prestigious trophy ahead of the start of the final competition, but they experienced a slow start after which they have managed to raise their football seeking their first World Cup final since 2006. On the other hand, Uruguay as one of just three teams that achieved all three victories in the group stage have maintained an impressive form against the current European champions, Portugal, winning the match by two goals to one, thanks to Edinson Cavani who scored a brace at the Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi. La Celeste have shown they know how to win important matches and France must be at the top of their game if looking to eliminate the 1930 World Cup winners.
Óscar Tabárez’s chief concern is the injury of Edinson Cavani, who had to leave the field in the 74th minute after picking up a calf injury in a match against Portugal. As for France, Didier Deschamps won’t have Blaise Matuidi at his disposal because the former PSG midfielder accumulated two yellow cards in the group phase.
