Urawa Reds vs Sagan Tosu 09/09/20

09 September 2020

Urawa Red Diamonds and Sagan Tosu go head-to-head at the Saitama Stadium for a potentially high-scoring J1 League affair. Indeed, both of their previous top-flight H2Hs have seen over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet.

The hosts have been struggling for consistency lately, winning three of their last six J1 League fixtures while losing the other three. Five of those six games have featured over 2.5 goals, with four containing at least two first-half goals and seeing the winner on the day concede at least once. But, for Urawa, goals have been at a premium at home this term. Before beating Oita 2-1 in their last such match, they had netted under 1.5 goals six times in a row. But, if they hit the net here, the ‘Reds’ are likely to do it before the break – 66.67% of Urawa’s J1 League goals scored at home arrived in the first half of play (4/6).

Meanwhile, the visitors have failed to impress away from home this term, picking up just a single win from five J1 League trips (D1, L3). A genuine lack of firepower up front has seen Tosu draw a blank of four of those five occasions. Also, Kim Myung-hwi’s men have been particularly vulnerable after the half-time break, conceding the vast majority (85.71%) of the league away goals shipped in the second half (6/7). It will be a daunting prospect for Sagan to seal all three points here, as they’ve failed to do so in all five of their previous top-flight trips to Urawa (D3, L2), scoring under 1.5 goals four times in the process.
