Ulsan Hyundai vs Seoul 30/08/20

30 August 2020

Ulsan Hyundai will be looking to extend an eight-game unbeaten run in the K League 1 H2Hs with Seoul (W6, D2) when the two sides lock horns at the Ulsan Munsu Football Stadium this weekend.

The hosts are in the midst of a purple patch, having avoided defeat in eight consecutive league fixtures ahead of this clash (W7, D1), as they sit top of the table, one point clear of closest-chasers Jeonbuk. Curiously, five of those seven victories came despite a -1 handicap, with each seeing Ulsan leading at the half-time break. Notably, ‘Tigers’ have based their home success on a rock-solid defense that has conceded the division’s joint-low four home goals. But, despite boasting the league-high 38 goals scored, only 34.21% (13) of those goals have arrived at home. Kim Do-hoon’s team might improve that record now, given they take on a side they’ve scored over 1.5 goals against in all three of their previous top-flight H2Hs held at this venue (W3).

As for the visitors, they have overseen an upturn in form ahead of this trip, going from three consecutive league defeats to four successive matches without a loss (W3, D1). While each of those three losses saw Seoul concede over 1.5 goals in one half, all three of their victories during that seven-game sequence witnessed them hit the net in both halves. However, Kim Ho-young’s men have failed to impress on the road lately, picking up just one win in their last seven league trips (D2, L4). That’s mainly due to a lack of firepower in the final third that has seen them draw a blank in five of those seven games.
