Uerdingen vs Borussia Dortmund 10/08/19
10 August 2019
Borussia Dortmund travel to the Merkur Spiel-Arena to take on the Third Division side Uerdingen in the first round of DFB Pokal.
Although the hosts have started the 2019-20 campaign with a narrow 1-0 home win over Hallescher, they’ve struggled to build on that, having failed to pick up the win in their last three league outings (D1, L2). Interestingly, all three of those matches have produced over 2.5 goals and seen both teams score, with both of those stalemates ending with the same 2-2 scoreline. Also, Heiko Vogel’s men have dodged failure in their last two home games (W1, D1), but they’ve struggled to secure a triumph in all of their previous ten home matches in 2019 across all competitions (D3, L7). What’s more, they have netted over 1.5 match goals only twice during that period while keeping a clean sheet barely once in the process.
On the other hand, the visitors have started the new season off on the right foot, beating arch-rivals Bayern Munich 2-0 in the German Super Cup. BVB travel here on an eight-game winning run, with all of those triumphs seeing them score two or more goals. Moreover, Lucien Favre’s men have bagged over 2.5 match goals six times across those games, finding the net in both halves six times along the way. Still, Die Borussen have endured mixed fortunes when away from home in the final stage of last season, securing three wins in six road games (W3, D1, L2). Nonetheless, none of those matches has been short of entertainment, with five of them featuring over 2.5 goals although three have seen both teams score.
