TSG Hoffenheim vs Bayern Munich 19/01/19

19 January 2019

TSG Hoffenheim and Bayern Munich return to the Bundesliga action this weekend, as Die Kraichgauer hope to post their third successive victory over the reigning holders at the Wirsol Rhein-Neckar Arena.

Winless in their last six league outings (D6), Hoffenheim currently sit seventh in the table, trailing the European promotion spots by two points. In five of the previous six stalemates, Hoffenheim were the ones to take the lead, breaking the deadlock in the first half four times during that period. Although unbeaten in their last five Bundesliga home clashes (W2, D3), Julian Nagelsmann’s players were held to three straight draws, with each of them producing under 2.5 goals. Seven out of Hoffenheim’s nine home games have seen both teams scoring, with Die Kraichgauer bagging over 1.5 goals per match three times in the process.

On the other hand, the Bavarians have racked up a five-game winning run ahead of this round, with each of their last five Bundesliga wins saw them beating their rivals to nil. Unbeaten in the previous eight games in all competitions (W6, D2), the Reds rediscovered their ‘killer instinct’ in the final third, scoring over 2.5 goals per match six times in that period. No team has scored more goals away from home than Bayern (21) so far, with the Bavarians notching over 1.5 goals per match eight times this term. Although lost two of their nine away clashes in the Bundesliga this term, Niko Kovac’s men (21) have collected more points on the road than any other team in the German top flight.

Five of the last seven H2H meetings between these two at the Wirsol Rhein-Neckar Arena have produced under 2.5 goals, but just one ended without a winner.
