Toulouse vs PSG
Paris Saint-Germain will be looking to get back to winning ways in Ligue 1 when they take on top-flight newcomers Toulouse at the Stadium Municipal.
Newly-promoted Toulouse turned a 1-0 HT lead into a dreadful 3-1 defeat away to Nantes at the weekend, as their three-game unbeaten start to the new Ligue 1 season came to a halt (W1, D2). Toulouse’s tally of five points from their opening four top-flight fixtures stands for their worst four-match start to a new Ligue 1 campaign since 2016/17 when they finished 13th. It’s been a while since the Municipal faithful enjoyed Toulouse’s home victory in the elite French competition, with Philippe Montanier’s side carrying an underwhelming ten-match winless home Ligue 1 streak into this encounter (D2, L8). That’s unlikely to change this midweek, as ‘Les Violets’ have only won one of their last 20 Ligue 1 meetings with PSG (D2, L17).
In the meantime, PSG’s stellar three-game winning start to the 2022/23 Ligue 1 season was curtailed at the weekend as Monaco held Christophe Galtier’s high-flyers to a 1-1 draw in Paris. Before being restricted to Neymar’s goal from the spot-kick against Monaco, ‘Les Parisiens’ had netted 5+ goals in their opening three league outings, including a 7-1 thrashing of Lille on their most recent top-flight road trip. Though it may sound bizarre, the reigning French champions have suffered four defeats in their last 11 Ligue 1 away matches against newly-promoted clubs (W6, D1). Plus, they’ve failed to keep a clean sheet in 12 of their previous 14 such fixtures. But Lionel Messi & Co have registered five wins in their last six Ligue 1 games on the road (D1), scoring an average of 4.66 goals per match in that span.
