Toulouse vs Paris Saint-Germain 31/03/19

31 March 2019

Out-of-form Toulouse team welcome the undisputed Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain to the Stadium Municipal hoping to snap a three-game L1 losing run to PSG.

Although the hosts seem to have secured the top-flight status for another season, they have endured another disappointing campaign and are currently sitting 14th in the table. Alain Casanova’s men have clinched just one triumph in their last ten L1 outings (W1, D5, L4), scoring under 1.5 goals per match on nine occasions during the run. Unprolific in the final third but very tough at the back, Le Téfécé have provided virtually no entertainment to the neutral whatsoever, with six of their previous nine L1 clashes producing under 2.5 goals. However, Toulouse are unbeaten in their last five L1 home games (W1, D4), with four of those meetings ending with less than three goals.

Meanwhile, the reigning holders are on the verge of wrapping up back-to-back L1 titles as they currently reside 20 points clear of second-placed Lille. A record of 25 wins, two draws, and a draw after 28 league fixtures is something L1 hasn’t witnessed before. The Parisians come into this meeting after racking up a seven-game league winning run, scoring 19 goals while conceding just three. Thomas Tuchel’s devastating offensive firepower has netted 86 league goals so far, which is by far L1’s best record. Additionally, no team has shipped fewer goals than PSG (16) this term although ten of those goals arrived away from home.

Interestingly, five of six of the previous H2Hs between these two sides have produced under 2.5 goals, while just one provided goals on both ends. A comfortable fact for the hosts is that they’ve managed to restrict PSG to a maximum of one goal per match in all four of their previous H2Hs at this venue.
