Tottenham Hotspur vs Wolverhampton Wanderers

Saturday’s Premier League action gets underway at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Tottenham Hotspur take on Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Tottenham fought back from an early 1-0 deficit to thrash lowly Southampton 4-1 at home on the opening weekend. But they had to hit back twice to hold Chelsea to a dramatic 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge last time out, with a heated post-match altercation between Antonio Conte and Thomas Tuchel overshadowing a thrilling contest in the west London. With their impending return to the Champions League approaching rapidly, ‘Spurs’ are keen to gather some momentum and potentially avenge last season’s 2-0 loss in this corresponding fixture. That could prove easier said than done, considering Conte’s men have suffered three defeats in their four most recent home league clashes against Wolves (W1), conceding 2+ goals in each reverse. There’s a piece of history up for grabs, as after scoring 999 Premier League goals, Tottenham could become only the fifth side to hit a 1,000-goal landmark in the competition.

On the other hand, Wolverhampton’s poor start to the season includes a 2-1 away loss to Leeds United on matchday one and a fortuitous scoreless home stalemate with promoted Fulham last time out. Despite securing the services of Goncalo Guedes over the summer, Wolves’ underwhelming scoring record continues to torment the Midlanders. Bruno Lage’s men averaged a measly one goal per Premier League game last season and have now scored just once in two league matches. Bringing the 2021/22 season into the equation, the ‘Wanderers’ are now winless in nine top-flight fixtures (D3, L6), their worst such streak in the competition since a run of 17 between February 2012 and August 2018.
