Tottenham Hotspur vs Watford 19/10/19

19 October 2019

Desperate to bounce back after a shock 3-0 away loss to Brighton, Tottenham Hotspur entertain rock-bottom Watford at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Although the hosts sit just three points adrift of the Premier League (PL) fourth-placed Leicester City, Mauricio Pochettino has been dealing with all sorts of problems ahead of the international break, as his side pulled off just one triumph in their last six games across all competitions (W1, D2, L3). Four of those matches have seen Spurs concede 2+ match goals while just two witnessed them net more than one. Same as last year, the London giants refuse to play out a draw when at home, having secured three wins in five competitive home games so far (L2), with four of those games featuring over 2.5 goals. Curiously, after performing a stunning second-half comeback to beat Aston Villa 3-1 in the curtain-raiser, Pochettino’s men have failed to find the net after the break in the subsequent three PL home outings, with all six goals they’ve scored in that period coming in the first half.

Meanwhile, dead-last visitors remain the only team in the PL that is yet to pick up a win this term (D3, L5). A 1-1 draw with Newcastle United aside, the Hornets have lost all three of their remaining league trips this season, drawing a blank each time while conceding a total of 11 goals. As a result, no team has shipped more goals on the road than Watford (12) so far, and no side has bagged fewer than them (1) either. Furthermore, going back to February 2019, the Hornets have won just one of nine PL away matches (D1, L7), conceding over 1.5 goals per an away league fixture six times during the sequence. Such a record is unlikely to improve here, as they’ve lost six consecutive PL trips to Tottenham, losing ‘to nil’ four times while allowing 2+ match goals on five occasions in the process.
