Tottenham Hotspur vs Southampton 06/12/18

06 December 2018

After a devastating 4-2 loss to Arsenal in the north London derby during the weekend, Tottenham Hotspur prepare to host the struggling Southampton side to the Wembley Stadium looking to bounce back immediately.

The aforementioned loss has brought Spurs’ six-game winning streak in all competitions to an end, and it was also the second time this season Tottenham conceded four goals following a 4-2 defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League. Along with Man City and Newcastle United, the Spurs are the only team whose all home Premier League clashes ended with a winner. Mauricio Pochettino’s men have won three out of five games at home while losing two times in the process. The important thing is, Tottenham have been ruthless against teams in the bottom half of the table, securing all seven wins thus far, while scoring an average of 2.14 goals per match.

The visitors, on the other hand, remain one of the worst teams in the Premier League this season, having wrapped up just nine points after the opening 14 league fixtures. What’s more, the Saints are winless in last ten Premier League clashes, as they’ve suffered five defeats while being held to five draws in the process. A 2-2 home draw with Manchester United last weekend has seen Mark Hughes’ players scoring more than one goal per match for the fourth time this season, but it was also the night time they have conceded a minimum of two goals per game. Although they reside one of the weakest road teams in the English top flight, Southampton’s only win this term came away from home when they’ve outplayed Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. But, they have lost four of their previous five road trips, only playing out a goalless draw with Bournemouth in the run.
