Tottenham Hotspur vs Sheffield United 09/11/19

9 November 2019

After beating Crvena Zvezda 4-0 in the Champions League, Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to carry some of that momentum into the Premier League (PL) when they take on the newly-promoted Sheffield United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend.

An erratic start to the season has seen the hosts pick up just three wins in the opening 11 rounds of the PL fixtures (D4, L4), as they currently sit ten points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea. Winless in the last four league outings (D2, L2), Spurs will be desperate to extend their 100% competitive home record in H2Hs with Sheffield (W2). Although Tottenham defeated Sheffield in both of their previous H2Hs at home without conceding a goal, Mauricio Pochettino’s men have failed to keep a clean sheet in six consecutive PL matches ahead of this one. All three of Spurs’ league triumphs have come at home and witnessed them score at least two goals, but each of them has seen Tottenham beat sides sitting below them in the pecking order.

Meanwhile, the returnees head to London on a run of four straight PL games without a loss (W2, D2), with three of those matches seeing them keep a clean sheet. Surprisingly, along with Liverpool, the Blades are the only team in England’s top-tier competition that has yet to lose away from home this term (W1, D4). Slow starters on the road, the visitors have conceded the opener in three of those PL trips, with three of six league away goals they’ve scored so far coming beyond the 78th minute. A 3-0 home win over Burnley last time out made it two league results of seven (win/loss) this term to separate the sides by more than 1.5 goals. Only three of their 11 PL fixtures this season have produced over 2.5 goals, and just five have witnessed goals in both halves.
