Tottenham Hotspur vs Reading 28/08/20

28 August 2020

Tottenham Hotspur and Reading will face off against each other in a pre-season friendly at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium weekend. A high-scoring affair is on the cards, given that all three of their previous H2H held in London have seen over 3.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet.

Tottenham will be looking to keep the momentum going following a 3-0 thumping of Ipswich Town in their opening pre-season friendly, as they take on a side they’ve won against in all four of their previous H2H meetings. In turn, ‘Spurs’ have avoided defeat in all seven of their last H2H clashes (W6, D1), although it’s worth noting that this will be their first encounter since 2013. At home, Jose Mourinho’s men have been relentless lately, putting together five consecutive triumphs, four of which were ‘to nil.’ Particularly prolific in the opening 45 minutes of play, they’ve registered eight of their last nine home goals scored before the half-time break.

Meanwhile, the visitors enjoyed a decent start to their pre-season preparations, clinching a 2-1 win over League One outfit Gillingham. However, the ‘Royals’ faltered down the final stretch of the last Championship campaign, suffering three consecutive defeats, all of which produced over 2.5 goals and saw both sides hit the net. Away from home, none of Reading’s previous eight fixtures has ended in a draw (W4, L4), with five of those results (wins/losses) seeing the winner on the day keep a clean sheet, including three of the last five. Delivering action from the get-go, all three of their previous road trips have seen the opening goal arrive before the 20-minute mark.
