Tottenham Hotspur vs Norwich City 23/01/20

23 January 2020

Tottenham Hotspur will entertain dead-last Norwich City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this midweek, looking to return to winning ways in the Premier League (PL).

The hosts head into this clash on a four-game winless PL run (D2, L2), with a dismal goalless away draw with Watford at the weekend piling more misery on a disappointing season for the Spurs fans. Placed eight points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea, the Londoners need to kick-start their league campaign as soon as possible, and facing a team they’ve not lost to in three of their last top-flight H2Hs (W2, D1) could be a good place to start. It will be vital for Tottenham to find the opening goal here, as they’ve returned a single point from five PL fixtures where they shipped the opener, with Jose Mourinho in charge. Regardless of the outcome, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has recently been a venue of entertainment, with five of Spurs’ last seven competitive games here featuring three or more goals.

Meanwhile, the visitors travel to London on the back of a narrow 1-0 home success against Bournemouth that has helped them halt a disastrous nine-game winless PL run (D4, L5). Although they’ve kept a clean sheet for the first time since a 2-0 away win over Everton in November, the Canaries are still struggling for goals. Indeed, they’ve now scored one goal or less in nine of their last eight league outings, with the sole exception of a 2-2 home draw with Tottenham. One of the main reasons Daniel Farke’s men are nailed to the bottom of the table is their disappointing away record (W1, D1, L8). A source of Norwich’s problems when they are on the road is their incapacity to find the net. No team has scored fewer PL away goals than the Canaries (5), with Norwich drawing a blank in seven of 11 PL road fixtures so far.
