Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United 25/07/19

25 July 2019

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United will battle it out in the 2019 International Champions Cup as the bitter Premier League rivals go head-to-head at the Hongkou Stadium this midweek.

The Spurs go into this encounter off the back of a stunning 3-2 win over Juventus at the beginning of their 2019 ICC journey. Mauricio Pochettino is eager to build on an impressive 2018-19 campaign that has seen Tottenham narrowly miss out on the Champions League trophy thanks to a 2-0 loss to Liverpool in the big final. Interestingly, just one of Tottenham’s last 16 games has ended in a stalemate (W7, D1, L8), with nine of those matches featuring under 2.5 goals. Also, seven of the Spurs’ last nine matches have been settled by a narrow one-goal margin (W3, L4), with five of them ending with the same 1-0 scoreline. But, the North Londoner’s last four fixtures have not been short of entertainment, with four of them seeing both teams score two or more goals.

On the other hand, the Red Devils have secured a 1-0 win over Inter Milan in their opening ICC match, which was their third win in as many friendlies this summer. Interestingly, all of United’s wins in the preparations have seen them beat their rivals to nil, which can be important for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has overseen United’s immense defensive problems over the past couple of months. The three-time Champions League winners have struggled to keep a blank slate in 15 consecutive games at the end of last campaign, conceding over 1.5 match goals eight times in the process.
