Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United 14/01/19

14 January 2019

Tottenham Hotspur will open their brand new venue this weekend as they prepare to welcome Manchester United to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium looking to build on a promising 1-0 home win over Chelsea in the EFL Cup semi-finals.

The London outfit has racked up a three-game winning run in all competitions, keeping a clean sheet in each encounter while scoring 11 goals in the process. Remaining the only team in the Premier League that is yet to play out a draw, the Spurs have won six of their nine PL home clashes this campaign although they’ve suffered disappointing 3-1 loss to Wolverhampton last time out. A failure against Wolves has brought their four-game home winning streak to an end, and it was also the first time Mauricio Pochettino’s men have conceded over 1.5 goals per match at home this term. Three of Tottenham’s last five home wins in all competitions ended with the identical 1-0 scoreline, with Spurs keeping a clean sheet four times in the period.

Meanwhile, the fallen giants have resurrected after the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, as they now look to extend a five-game winning run in all competitions. Under Solskjaer’s guidance, the Red Devils have scored over 1.5 goals per match in five straight matches, bagging over 2.5 goals per game three times in the process. The more important matter is that they’ve managed to keep a clean sheet twice in a row ahead of this meeting, which is only the second time this season they’ve accomplished such a thing. However, the clash with Tottenham will be Solskjaer’s first high-profile game since replacing Mourinho, as all of his five wins as manager saw Manchester United beating the sides from the bottom half of the table.

The last six H2H meetings between the two in London has seen Manchester United failing to capture all three points (D3, L3) as they now hope to bring a three-game road losing streak against Tottenham to an end.
