Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool 02/06/19

2 June 2019

Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool go head-to-head at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano for an all-English Champions League final, which will see the two Premier League sides battling out for the most prestigious international club title for the first time since the 2007-08 campaign.

Both teams have performed stunning comebacks to book tickets for Madrid. While the Spurs have managed to overturn a one-goal deficit from the first leg against Ajax and pull off a remarkable 3-2 triumph in Amsterdam, the Reds have overcome Barcelona’s three-goal lead from Camp Nou, clinching an astonishing 4-0 victory at Anfield.

It will be the third H2H meeting between the two bitter rivals this season, with Liverpool beating Tottenham in the Premier League twice this term, both times by the same 2-1 scoreline.

Interestingly, the London heavyweights have secured four wins in six CL knockout stage games (W4, L2), with five of those clashes being settled by a narrow one-goal margin. Also, three of those matches have produced over 2.5 goals, with the remaining three ending with the identical 1-0 scoreline (two in Spurs’ favor and one against). A 1-0 scoreline has been the most common outcome in Tottenham’s recent outings, with five of their last seven competitive games ending with that result (W1, L4).

Meanwhile, the Merseysiders will have a chance to lift their first European title since the 2004-05 campaign after breaking into their second consecutive Champions League final. Just like Tottenham, the Reds have racked up four wins in the CL knockout stage (W4, D1, L1), with one notable difference. All of those triumphs have seen them beat their opponents by a comfortable two-goal margin. Importantly, six of Liverpool’s last eight victories across all competitions have seen them beat their rivals to nil, with Jurgen Klopp’s men scoring 2+ match goals in each.
