Tottenham Hotspur vs Leicester City 10/02/19

10 February 2019

Drawless in 25 PL games this season (W19, L6), Tottenham Hotspur welcome a vulnerable Leicester City team to the Wembley Stadium looking to post third successive win over the visitors in the national championship.

Although weakened by the injury of Harry Kane, the hosts have racked up a three-game Premier League winning run, scoring five goals while conceding two in the process. Sitting just five points below the league leaders Liverpool, the Spurs have to wrap up all three points to keep their chances of winning the PL title alive. Mauricio Pochettino’s men seem to have managed to overcome a difficult period that has seen them losing two consecutive PL home games, as they come into this meeting carrying a two-game home winning streak. Surprisingly, but Tottenham have collected more points on the road this campaign, having already suffered four losses in 12 PL home outings (W8, L4). Three of Tottenham’s last four triumphs at Wembley have arrived without much fanfare, with the Spurs beating their rivals with a narrow 1-goal margin.

Meanwhile, the visitors are yet to find a way out of a severe crisis that has seen them failed to secure all three points in five consecutive meetings across all competitions (D1, L4). The principal cause of the Foxes’ late struggling concerns their poor displays in the final third, as Claude Puel’s players managed to score over 1.5 goals per match only once in their last seven competitive clashes. Just like their upcoming opponents, the Foxes tend to win the games by close distance, as 80% of their PL road triumphs saw them outplaying the opponents by a narrow 1-goal margin. Four of their previous six PL encounters have produced under 2.5 goals, with three of them ending with the identical 1-0 scoreline (one in and two against their favor).
