Tottenham Hotspur vs Ipsiwch Town 22/08/20
22 August 2020
Tottenham Hotspur and Ipswich Town will begin their pre-season campaign at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend. Although each of those six previous H2H clashes produced over 2.5 goals, it’s worth noting that this will be their first meeting since 2002.
Tottenham reeled off a series of impressive performances down the final stretch of last season, picking up four wins in the closing six Premier League matches (D2). Jose Mourinho’s successful attempts to plug Tottenham’s defensive leaks saw Spurs keep a clean sheet in half of those six games and restrict their opponent to one match goal in the other three. Moreover, the Londoners have won all four of their previous home fixtures, beating their rivals ‘to nil’ on three of those occasions. Notably, nine of their last 12 goals scored on home turf arrived in the first half of play (75%).
Meanwhile, Ipswich finished the 2019/20 League One campaign with a whimper rather than a bang, suffering four consecutive defeats, three of which yielded the identical 1-0 FT score. In turn, a lack of ruthlessness in the final third has seen Paul Lambert’s side draw a blank in four of their last six away matches (W1, D2, L3), with all three of their goals netted across those fixtures coming in the second half of play. Stretching back to December, the ‘Tractor Boys’ have picked up just a single win from 13 trips (D6, L6), bagging under 1.5 goals 11 times.
