Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea 09/01/19

09 January 2019

Tottenham Hotspur are set to play their first game at their new venue as they prepare to welcome Chelsea to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the EFL Cup semi-finals.

The two have already faced each other this season in the Premier League, with Tottenham securing a comfortable 3-1 triumph at the Wembley Stadium.

Three of the last five H2H meetings between the London giants have produced over 2.5 goals with both teams hitting the back of the net in each.

The Spurs come into this encounter following a massive 7-0 victory over the lower-league side Tranmere, which was their second successive win in which they’ve managed to keep a clean sheet. Still, a disappointing 3-1 loss to Wolverhampton has brought Tottenham’s six-game home winning run to an end. Mauricio Pochettino’s men have kept a clean sheet in three of their last five home outings, scoring exactly one goal per match on three occasions in the process. The Spurs have won three of the previous five home clashes with Chelsea, suffering one defeat during the run.

On the other hand, the Blues are unbeaten in their last four competitive games (W3, D1) as they now hope to post their fourth consecutive road triumph. Maurizio Sarri’s players have gone from three straight road matches without a win to three victories in a row. Chelsea’s principal problem when it comes to their away matches concerns their poor defensive outputs that have seen them concede on five successive road trips across all competitions before clinching a narrow 1-0 triumph over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. However, the Pensioners have scored exactly two goals per match three times in their last four road meetings, failing to hit the back of the net just once in 14 road clashes in all competitions.
