Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea 23/12/19
23 December 2019
Weekend’s Premier League (PL) action concludes with a massive showdown at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Tottenham Hotspur take on fierce London rivals Chelsea.
The hosts can break into the top four for the first time since Matchday 2 if they manage to take advantage of Chelsea’s recent struggling to stretch their two-game winning streak in competitive home H2Hs. Jose Mourinho has overseen an upturn in results since taking over the reins in North London, as Spurs pulled off four wins in five PL fixtures with him in charge (W4, L1). All of those successes have seen the North Londoners score two or more goals and open the scoring inside the opening 36 minutes of play. Furthermore, last season’s Champions League runners-up have won four of their last six top-flight home matches (W4, D2), netting at least three goals on three of those occasions. The one thing that could be setting them back is a leaky defense that has failed to keep a clean sheet in nine of their previous 11 competitive outings.
Meanwhile, a win in the London derby would serve the visitors as a perfect way out of a severe crisis that has seen them lose four of their last five PL fixtures (W1, L4). Three of those defeats in that five-game sequence have come via a single-goal margin, with two of them ending with the identical 1-0 scoreline. It will be a daunting prospect for Chelsea to pick up a win here as they’ve clinched only one triumph in six of their previous top-flight trips to Tottenham (W1, D2, L3). Additionally, the Blues have failed to secure a single win in their last three competitive away games (D1, L2), conceding over 1.5 match goals in each of those clashes. Franck Lampard can still rely on a free-scoring attack to deliver a positive outcome her, as the Pensioners found the net in ten consecutive road trips in all competitions ahead of this fixture, bagging 2+ match goals on seven of those occasions.
