Tottenham Hotspur vs Brighton & Hove Albion 26/12/19

26 December 2019

Boxing Day football in the Premier League gets underway at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton & Hove Albion go head-to-head.

A 2-0 home loss to Chelsea in last weekend’s derby was the first time since Jose Mourinho took over the reins that Spurs failed to find the back of the net. The North Londoners have bagged 2+ match goals in five of eight competitive outings under the Portuguese boss, scoring at least three goals on four of those occasions. But, Mourinho’s biggest issue is Tottenham’s inability to keep a clean sheet, as they’ve now conceded at least one goal in eight of their last nine games in all competitions, allowing over 1.5 match goals six times in the process. The one thing that can comfort the home fans is that Tottenham picked up four triumphs in their previous six competitive matches here (W4, D1, L1), netting at least three goals in each of those successes.

Meanwhile, the visitors head to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, looking to put a four-game away losing run in competitive H2Hs to an end. It will be a daunting prospect for Brighton to do that, as they’ve failed to secure a single win in their last three PL outings (D2, L1) and have also drawn a blank in three of their previous competitive trips to Tottenham. Arguably one of the weakest away sides in England’s top tier, the Seagulls have won just once in their last eight PL road trips (W1, D2, L5), scoring one goal or less on seven of those occasions. Another potential worry for Graham Potter is that his players have conceded two or more goals in five of those trips, keeping a clean sheet only once.
